Here is an insightful and troubling column from Nicholas Kristof of the NYTimes.
Many have been writing about Obama's vulnerability to racial prejudice, but Kristof exposes the right wing religious zealots for spreading lies about Obama's religion as a cover for deep seated racial prejudice. He makes the observation that it's more acceptable to speak out against another's religious preferences than it is to denigrate those of a different race.
This column has generated almost 900 comments so far. Some might think we shouldn't talk about it because it might make the problem worse. I think we need to talk about it non stop going forward, because it is the proverbial elephant in the room, that which nobody wants to acknowledge.
