Palin According to Taibbi

I've hesitated to provide a link to a piece by Matt Taibbi because of some pretty crude language in it. But that is part of the writer's style. He's known for it, as a writer for Rolling Stone.

However his message is important, and I agree with what he has written. It is about frustration with the level of thinking, if one could call it that, of a substantial portion of the American voting public.

Here is a link to this particular piece. In it Taibbi is a voice crying out about the phenomenon that is Sarah Palin.

However I believe it's important to view Palin as merely the current catalyst for energizing a frighteningly large, gullible and manipulable segment of the American electorate.

This is the crowd which Karl Rove knows how to hook. He mastered his skills in the direct mail business, marketing products through the use of exaggerated claims and misinformation, if not out right lies. These are the same people who often continue to harbor prejudices, only slightly buried. Palin has tapped into these prejudices, some racial and ethnic, some religious, some cultural as in small town, just plain folks vs metropolitan so-called elite, "real people" versus "phonies" so to speak.

Rove and his proteges know how to convince people actually to vote against their own interests.

That is the real danger he and his right wing nuts pose.
